The Interchange Savings Dashboard provides a focused view of your interchange optimization performance — tracking the actual savings already captured through L2/L3 data enrichment and network tokenization, as well as the potential savings still on the table if eligible transactions were fully optimized.
This dashboard helps payments teams identify downgrade patterns, benchmark interchange rates, and quantify the financial impact of optimization efforts — all in one place.
KPI Section (Top)
The KPI section shows a snapshot of interchange performance based on the last complete month of data, giving you a fast read on costs, savings, and downgrade health.
|
KPI |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Transactions |
Count of all Sale and Refund transactions in the selected period. |
|
Net Sales |
Total sales minus refunds — your true revenue after returns. |
|
Downgrade Rate |
% of transactions that failed to qualify for their optimal interchange category. |
|
Effective IC Rate |
Your actual blended interchange rate — total interchange fees ÷ net sales. |
|
Optimal IC Rate |
The interchange rate you would achieve if all transactions qualified at their best possible category. |
|
Interchange Fees |
Total dollar amount paid in interchange fees across all transactions. |
|
Actual Savings |
Dollar amount already saved through L2/L3 data submission and network tokenization. |
|
Potential Savings |
Estimated additional savings achievable by optimizing remaining eligible but unoptimized transactions. |
Each KPI tile includes a period-over-period comparison (e.g., Feb vs Jan), with color-coded arrows and a mini trendline to show directional performance at a glance.
Charts Tab
The Charts tab visualizes savings trends, downgrade patterns, and interchange fee composition over time. All charts respect the Date Range selector at the top of the dashboard, which defaults to the last 6 months including the current month.
Chart 1: Potential Savings and Actual Savings (Combined Line Chart)
-
Y-Axis: Dollar amount ($)
-
X-Axis: Time (configurable via Date Granularity: Y / Q / M / W / D)
-
Series: Actual Savings (filled area) and Potential Savings (line overlay)
Actual savings is not available on controllable downgrades savings.
This matters when you read the gap between the two series. Part of the distance between Potential and Actual is not missed savings — it is savings that simply are not measured for controllable downgrades, so treat the gap as an upper bound on remaining opportunity rather than a precise shortfall.
Use this chart to track how closely your actual savings are tracking against your optimization ceiling — a widening gap signals untapped opportunity.
Chart 2: Potential Savings (Stacked Bar)
-
Y-Axis: Dollar amount ($)
-
X-Axis: Time period
-
Segments: L2 Potential Savings, L3 Potential Savings, Token Potential Savings
Breaks down where your remaining optimization opportunity lives — whether it's in Level 2 commercial card data, Level 3 line-item detail, or network tokenization.
Chart 3: Actual Savings (Stacked Bar)
-
Y-Axis: Dollar amount ($)
-
X-Axis: Time period
-
Segments: L2 Actual Savings, L3 Actual Savings, Token Actual Savings
Shows which optimization levers are already delivering results. A growing L3 or Token segment typically reflects successful enrichment programs or tokenization rollouts.
Chart 4: Downgrade Rate by Downgrade Type (Line Chart)
-
Y-Axis: Downgrade rate (%)
-
X-Axis: Time period
-
Grouping: IC : Downgrade Type (configurable)
-
Controls: Type, Group, TOP N (default 10), Date Granularity
Downgrade types tracked:
-
Missing AVS / Other Controllable Downgrade
-
Missing L2 Data
-
Missing L3 Data
-
Missing Network Token
Use this chart to pinpoint the root causes of interchange downgrades. If Missing L2 Data dominates, that's a data submission issue; if Missing AVS is prevalent, it points to an authorization configuration problem.
Chart 5: Interchange Fees by % of Total Amount & Card Product Type (Stacked Bar)
-
Y-Axis: % of Total Amount
-
X-Axis: Time period
-
Grouping: IC : Card Product Type (configurable)
-
Controls: Type (Interchange Fees), Measure (% of Total Amount), Group, TOP N (default 10), Date Granularity
Card product types include: Consumer Rewards, Consumer Traditional, Inter-Regional, Commercial, International, Sig Debit, and others.
This view reveals which card product types are driving your interchange cost mix. Consumer Rewards cards typically carry higher rates — tracking their share over time helps you understand cost pressure from your card mix.
Chart 6: Savings Breakdown (Horizontal Bar)
-
X-Axis: Value of the selected Measure (e.g., dollar amount or percentage)
-
Y-Axis: Group values, ranked so the largest contributor sits at the top
-
Controls: Type, Measure, Group 1, Group 2, TOP N, Date Granularity
This chart carries its own Type and Measure selectors and two independent Group levels, so you can see one savings category split by a second dimension in a single view — for example Potential Savings by Downgrade Type, split again by Card Product Type — instead of switching between two separate charts.
Use the Date Granularity toggle (Y / Q / M / W / D) on any chart to zoom from annual trends down to daily fluctuations. The TOP N control limits charts to your highest-contributing segments.
Data Tab
The Data tab provides a configurable tabular view of interchange savings and downgrade data, giving you the raw numbers behind the charts for deeper analysis or export.
Configurable columns:
-
Type – The metric or transaction type to report on
-
Measure – The value to display (e.g., count, amount, rate)
-
Group 1 – Primary dimension for grouping (e.g., Card Product Type, Downgrade Type)
-
TOP N – Limit results to the top N groups by volume or value
-
Group 2 – Secondary dimension for cross-tabulation
This tab is ideal for exporting granular interchange data to Excel or CSV for reconciliation, finance reporting, or building custom analyses outside Harmonize.
Filtering Tips
Use the Filters button at the top right of the dashboard to narrow your view:
-
Date Range: Set a specific time window for both KPIs and charts (e.g., current month, last quarter, or a custom range)
-
Transaction Type: This dashboard includes only Sale and Refund data — other transaction types are excluded by default
-
Group Filters: Isolate specific MIDs, acquirers, card brands, or card product types
-
TOP N: Control how many segments appear in charts and the Data tab to keep focus on the highest-impact groups
Use Case Example:
"We want to understand why our Potential Savings figure is high and identify which downgrade type to tackle first."
Review Chart 1 to see the gap between Potential and Actual Savings over time
Switch to Chart 2 to identify which savings type (L2, L3, or Token) has the largest unrealized opportunity
Open Chart 4, set Group to IC : Downgrade Type, and compare downgrade type prevalence across months
Use the Data Tab to export the breakdown by downgrade type for your operations or tech team to action
