Top N Filter

Overview

The Top N filter lets you focus on the most impactful group categories in a chart — for example, showing only the top 10 acquirers, card brands, or merchants instead of all of them at once.

To make sure the "top" results are as meaningful as possible, the Top N filter uses different metrics depending on the dashboard and chart type you're viewing. For example, on the Authorizations dashboard, the top categories on a line chart are ranked by transaction volume rather than approval rate — so you're always seeing the groups that matter most in context.

How It Works by Chart Type

There are three chart types that support the Top N filter, and each works a little differently:

  • Line Charts — Top N is ranked by a fixed, dashboard-specific metric (see the table below). This ensures the most relevant categories are surfaced automatically.

  • Bar Charts — Top N is based on whichever measure you've selected in the Measure Selector.

  • Horizontal Bar Charts — Top N is also based on the Measure Selector, and targets Group 1 by default (except where noted).

Tips

💡 Not seeing the categories you expect? Keep in mind that on line charts, Top N is fixed to the dashboard's core volume metric. If you want to rank by a different measure, try switching to a bar chart and using the Measure Selector.

💡 Working with grouped data? On horizontal bar charts, Top N targets Group 1 by default (or Group 2 where noted). Make sure your grouping is set up the way you intend before applying a Top N filter.
