The MID Metadata Tracker Dashboard monitors the completeness of MID metadata across your payment portfolio, showing how many of your active Merchant IDs have properly defined configuration versus those that are still undefined.
Undefined MIDs limit the accuracy of downstream reporting across all Harmonize dashboards. This dashboard helps track metadata coverage over time and identify exactly which accounts still need to be configured.
Default view displays settled data only. Use the Funding Method filter to access conveyed data.
Defined vs Undefined — What It Means
|
Status |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Defined |
The MID has at least some metadata records loaded in Harmonize — it can be partially or fully attributed to business dimensions such as merchant name, merchant account, and industry across dashboards. |
|
Undefined |
The MID is active and processing fees but has no metadata records loaded. It will appear as unattributed until configured. |
Undefined MIDs still generate fees and transaction volume — they just can't be segmented or reported on accurately. The higher your Defined %, the more reliable your reporting across the platform.
Defined Vs Undefined MIDs (Stacked Bar Chart)
-
Y-Axis: % of Fee Volume
-
X-Axis: Time period (configurable via Date Granularity: Y / Q / M / W / D — defaults to Monthly)
-
Segments: Defined and Undefined
Each bar shows the share of total fee volume in each status for that period. Percentages are labeled directly on each segment for quick reading.
Track your metadata coverage trend over time. A rising Defined % month over month indicates successful onboarding and configuration work. A sudden drop may signal new MIDs coming online that haven't yet been mapped.
The chart defaults to the last 13 months, giving you a rolling year of coverage history — useful for reporting on data quality improvement programs.
Pivot Table
The pivot table lets you drill into the detail behind the chart — identifying which specific acquirers and merchant accounts fall into each status category, along with their fee totals over time.
Defined / Undefined Toggle
At the top left of the pivot table, switch between Defined and Undefined views to focus on one status at a time. The Undefined view is where the action is for metadata cleanup — it shows you exactly which accounts need attention and how much fee volume is flowing through them unattributed.
Controls
-
Measure: Defaults to Total Fees. The dropdown carries a much wider list than the default — alongside Net Sales and Transactions it includes Effective Rate, Average Tkt, Fee Count, Downgrade Rate, Potential Savings, and settlement-currency variants of the amount measures
Switch the measure when you want to re-ask the same coverage question on a different basis: a handful of undefined MIDs can look trivial by fee volume but account for a large share of transaction count, and measures such as Effective Rate or Potential Savings show what the missing metadata is costing you rather than just how much volume it covers.
-
Groups: Defaults to 2. Can increase the number of groups up to 6 depending on the grouping levels you need
-
Group 1: MID : Acquirer — the top-level grouping by processor
-
Group 2: MID : Merchant ID — the secondary grouping showing individual merchant IDs under each acquirer
-
Date Granularity: Defaults to Month — switch to Quarter or Year for a higher-level view
Table Structure
|
Column |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Group 1 (Acquirer) |
The acquiring processor associated with the MID. |
|
Group 2 (Merchant ID) |
The Merchant ID associated with the MID. |
|
Monthly columns |
Total Fees (or selected Measure) for each month across the selected date range, displayed side by side for easy trend comparison. |
Negative values in the Total Fees columns (e.g., for some MIDs) typically indicate refunds, adjustments, or reversals that exceeded fee charges in that period.
Filtering Tips
Use the Filters button at the top right to narrow the dashboard:
-
Date Period: Defaults to the last 13 months — adjust to focus on a specific onboarding window or remediation sprint
-
Acquirer: Isolate a single processor to review metadata coverage for that relationship only
-
Funding Method: Switch between Settled (default) and Conveyed data
-
Date Granularity: Use Weekly on the bar chart to track the impact of a metadata cleanup effort in near-real time
Use Case Example:
"We onboarded several new MIDs last quarter and want to confirm they've all been properly configured before month-end reporting."
Check the Defined Vs Undefined MIDs chart — look for an uptick in the Undefined % in the months when the new MIDs went live
Switch the pivot table toggle to Undefined and set Group 1 to MID : Acquirer and Group 2 to MID : Merchant ID
Scan for the relevant acquirer in Group 1 — any newly onboarded merchant IDs appearing there confirm metadata is still missing
Note the Total Fees columns for those rows — this tells you how much fee volume is currently flowing through unattributed, which quantifies the reporting gap
Share the list with your implementation team to prioritize which MIDs to configure first based on fee volume
